Pantone Adds 225 Colors to Formula Guide

Orange, neutrals, browns, green and mystical purple will paint the next decade of color.

Pantone recently announced the addition of 225 colors to its Formula Guide – a tool used across industries for designers to achieve the intended colors on their design.

Behind this addition was research from the experts at Pantone on what the next decade of color will bring:

Spicy Shades of Orange

Orange demand grows for spicier and deeper tones: A range of oranges include many different variations of this versatile and convivial shade including hot and radiant orange tones, an assortment of spicy shades with greater color depth, more toned-down hues suffused with brown, and a variety of coral influenced and softer peach and apricot hues.

The neutrals and browns skew to more luxurious: The new colors in the brown family, from those that are more golden, to the more red-based shades, express more color depth and versatility with robust coffee and mocha browns. With the taupe and khaki family ascending in popularity, several warmer and more classic camel tones have been added, which display a golden base.

Environmental Health Brings a Need for Greens

The influence of nature and health of our environment brings the need for greens: A wide array of green shades ranging from earthy warm yellow greens to the true green shades, deep blue influenced greens, grayed down blue based greens, celery green tones and citrusy energetic yellow-green hues.

Purple Hues Reign Supreme

As purple hues continue to soar and the more multi-dimensional aspect of purple is embraced, Pantone added additional vibrant red-based purples, several grayed-down purple with blue undertones, an array of softer mid tones, and some more mystical smokey violet purples.
